Ghana
In Ghana, AeHS international works together with Nyaho Medical Centre, a top hospital in Accra, to establish a diabetes call centre. It will bring the medical services home. This means more safety, convenience and better health outcomes. Research is on-going to proof this statement, which has been observed elsewhere.
The call centre concept will be replicated for maternal health. This is presently under investigation.
Malawi
In Malawi, AfyaPro 2.0 Connected Care worked together with local partners in the Southern and Central region. Specifically they support implementations in the districts of Chikwawa, Lilongwe and Machinga. To reinforce the quality of support, a collaboration with the Zambian office is under preparation.
Mali
The staff of AfyaPro 2.0 Connected Care were at the cradle of eHealth in Mali. A number of ICT solutions have been developed with the support of IICD. The IKON project is an interesting example of making telemedicine projects sustainable. Also intensive collaboration was maintained with CERTES. CERTES uses the software [email protected] as integrated Hospital Management Information System.
Tanzania
Technology and transformative services can bring significant improvement in health services. The Tanzanian health system suffers from fragmentation and an inappropriate use of the referral chain. The paucity of doctors and the erratic availability of medical supplies makes the patient journey costly in terms of time and money.
Tanzania is the cradle of the development of the AfyaPro solutions. In 2006, the first implementations were done. Electricity problems wiped out a part of the efforts. As of 2008, new implementations started, especially in the Lake Zone. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health visited the Lake Zone. She was amazed of the possibilities. From that moment AfyaPro implementations have been growing in Tanzania with about 30 implementations at present. The health facilities are located in Lake Zone, Ifakara, Lindi, Mbeya, Tanga, Rungwe and Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania: Nyakahanga Hospital
A basic hospital information system that follows the patient’s journey: registration, vital signs, consultation, lab, pharmacy, In patient department (nursing Station). It functions over four years. The initial investment was partially sponsored. Now it’s completely running based on own resources. The advantage of AfyaPro was that it created transparency and substantially increased the hospital revenue. As a consequence additional means are available for expansion of medical services.
Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is a country with a lot of potential and with persistent problems. AeHS staff supported the conceptualization, development and implementation of the database system for the national result based financing program. This has been rolled out over the whole country. Also an eVoucher system for maternal health care was developed and operational since 2015.
AeHS operates together with ICT Warehouse in Zimbabwe. ICT Warehouse (Pvt) Ltd is a Zimbabwean registered company which was duly incorporated in terms of the Companies Act in 2005 and is fully owned by Zimbabweans. The name of their organisation summaries who they are: a warehouse of technology, a warehouse of innovation, and a warehouse of knowledge. The world today revolves around information and knowledge warehouses and the best stocked warehouse dictates the evolution. In the context of ICT Warehouse, the word ‘warehouse’ connotes their determination to create innovative business solutions. They are committed to yielding excellence in our service delivery.
Besides maintenance and support, no new activities have been undertaken pending the release of AfyaPro2.0 Connected Care and the opening of new possibilities in Zimbabwe.
Kenya
Ting’ang’a Catholic Dispensary
AfyaPro and Phillips team at Ting’ang’a
Located in Kiambu County is Ting’ang’a Catholic Dispensary. It has a staff of approximately 13 individuals and has been using the AfyaPro software since April 2021. The hospital staff were all in high praise of the software and what stood out most was the aspect of billing and accounting. According to sister Donata Kilolo, the software captures and generates instant receipts for all payments made and this has eased billing and accountability.
Holy Family Mission Githunguri
This is one of the recent health facilities to implement the AfyaPro system. Since the systems installation, there has been significant administrative improvements. The facility previously used to write down patient information which was tedious and time consuming. It is now evident with the use of the AfyaPro system that patient flow has been seamless and patients spend less time queuing.
Mang’u Catholic Dispensary ( now Cardinal Otunga Health Facility, Mang’u)
Located in Mangu Kiambu county Kenya, the Health Facility has a staff of approximately 15 people. The facility has been using the AfyaPro software since April 2021 and the transition has been seamless.
Upon visiting the site, it’s evident that patient flow was effortless and there was limited to no waiting time.
The transition from paper to paperless administration has come with its advantages. According to Patrick, the facility’s Dentist, keeping track of patient records has been made faster and easier because the facility is able to see a patients history at the click of a button and a Medical professional is also able to give an informed diagnosis based on the same history.
